Just received this unit and tried it on a familiar route aprox, 100 miles.Unit worked perfectly. Very pleased. My only complaint is that this product dropped in price on amazon less than a week later and amazon would not adjust my price but informed me I could return it. Wasn”t worth going through the shipping process or cost.

The Garmin nuvi 255W is my first GPS system. I read the reviews then bought it and it is everything that I wanted for the price of course. I am enjoying it. It is easy to use. It has text to speech which I like very much.

This is the first GPS that I have owned and really love it. It is very easy to start using and very helpful. My husband and I will be taking a trip in May and was hoping to get familiar with it before we start our vacation.

The unit took just under a week to arrive. Set up was easy as was the online update which was optional. Calculation time is seconds, which is a huge improvement over my last GPS. The 255W is clear and POIs plentiful. Destinations in Canada are a bit limited. Overall, I’m very pleased with the product and service.

For those of us who are chronically getting lost, this is a must. I particularly liked this model since it had the basics of what I need to navigate without feeling stressed. I need the voice directions, and the backup visual directions in a unit that can be transferred from car to car. The voice directions (your choice of voice) anticipate a change of course, and help the driver prepare for the changes. The visual directions have colored pathways that are easily seen and validate what is heard about the unfamiliar territory. Minor deficiencies are some of the incorrect pronunciations, the unit mounting onto the windshield has to be set up before you drive, slightly non-specific explanations (ex: a u-turn was stated, but the depth of the u-turn wasn’t. This meant we didn’t realise that the hotel was deep in the access road) and such-like. I am not programming savvy, but it does have many features that I don’t know how to access other than by mistake. Probably most people could use the unit more effectively than I do, but it is used all the time by one family member or another.

4 Stars Happy with the Nuvi 260
I spent a long time researching many different brands and models of GPS navigators and when I finally purchased the Nuvi 260 I was very pleased. It’s truly ready to use straight out of the box. The learning curve for using this is zero. No instruction required! There are no “bells and whistles” on this model though. It gives you text-to-speech driving directions and stores photos only, so if you’re looking for features such as bluetooth, speech recognition and an fm transmitter than this model is not for you. It does have the capacity to add your own directions via an SD card though. However, if you’re like me and only want your GPS navigator to “navigate”, then this model is a good fit.

I like the map format feature. I can make the map 2D, north up, like a map. Most GPS’s force the 3D map format I don’t like. It speaks street names. Features it DOESN’T have I wish it did: zip code alternative to city names, pre-filling in addresses (like my street has only 60xx addresses; some GPS’ fill in the 60; not this one), and selecting a fastest route, shortest route, or most use of highway features. You just get what it decides is best. Features it DOES have; saving destinations, and your HOME.

Purchased for my husband as a birthday gift.We used it on a 400 mile road trip and it made our trip a snap. Great for looking up restaurants, hotels, etc. It comes with a charger for your car battery, not the A/C outlet, but it works great.Fine value.
